Remember Kirk Cameron? He played hearthrob teen Mike Seaver on the 80's sitcom "Growing Pains".
Yeah. Anyway, it turns out that he has become a prominent voice for the religious right, and a literal interpretation of the Bible.
So be it. But he is constantly attempting to make his voice heard, and his latest foray was in trying to take on the mind of none other than Stephen Hawking.
Wow! My last post was about an upcoming debate between a creationist, Ken Ham, and Bill Nye, "The Science Guy". And I thought Ken Ham was in over his head!
Cameron challenged Hawking's scientific thinking, as well as taking some shots at John Lennon's lyrics for "Imagine", which you can read about and watch in a video clip, by clicking on the link below:

Wow. That guy floors me to such a degree as to almost leave me speechless. I'm reminded of a hilarious headline from The Onion: "Three eminent biologists and 'Growing Pains'' Kirk Cameron weigh in on evolution". What's not so funny is that legions of people no wiser or less clueless than Kirk Cameron play a prominent role in the political arena, from small town deputy mayors to members of the federal government. (And then people wonder why I lean towards misanthropy...)
ReplyDeleteAnyone who outright tries to contest Stephen Hawking's scientific expertise is clearly presuming too much about their own expertise. Especially when they rely on a literal interpretation of the Bible in so doing.
