Super Bowl XLVIII is scheduled for Sunday, February 2nd, a week from this Sunday.
But that date might change, if the weather is unaccommodating. The game could be played any time between Friday, January 31, and Monday, February 3rd, depending on what the weather is supposed to be like. So, all those fears about a Super Bowl being played during a winter blizzard, or a Nor'easter were unfounded.
I think we kind of knew that already, though, right? I mean, the days when true football championships were determined on icy fields in New York, Chicago, or Green Bay are a thing of the past.
True, these are grown men. And also true, football traditionally is played in the cold weather, and the cold weather is just part of the game. But people flock to the big game from all over, and these people seem to like warm weather for the big game, and the festivities surrounding it.
Personally, I felt that a cold weather Super Bowl (and I mean a true cold weather Super Bowl, not just a Super Bowl played in a cold weather city, but under a dome, or perhaps a freakish spell of cold weather in normally moderate Dallas) was long overdue.
But, predictably, the league is catering to elites who bring with them a lot of cash, and money talks. The league has indeed kind of become a watered down version of what it once was as a result.
Oh, well. What can you do?
In any case, I'm personally just hoping for a good game!
