This mistake, made during a huge national speech that was supposed to be the highlight of Trump’s vanity parade on the Fourth of July, is really, really big. And it is really, really bad – so bad, that Trump has outright acknowledged it.
That is saying something, because Trump has made similar blunders in the past, and he largely ignores them. But this one, he did not ignore, probably because he could not ignore it.
Yes, that was how embarrassing this one was.
Still, despite his acknowledging that this was a bad mistake, Trump, quite typically, blamed others, or particular circumstances. In this case, Trump blamed the rainy weather. Because, you know, the rain is apparently his weak point, and makes him not think clearly when he is giving a pathetically needy speech. That is why he did not bother showing up to honor the veteran of World War I on the monumental 100th anniversary of that war ending.
Sure.
But Trump also blamed the teleprompters. Because again, that seems to suggest that this was someone else’s screw-up, and not his own. There he was, innocently just reading the teleprompters without much thought, showing just how much of a “very stable genius” he really is. He could not think on his toes when the teleprompters apparently screwed up, and could not immediately recognize the obvious mistake that many school children could have easily pointed out, because it was rainy out.
Oh, and he avoided going to Vietnam after receiving an elite military education, because he had bone spurs. He could have simply waited for this condition to pass, and then go ahead and do his patriotic duty and show everyone what a real war hero does, assuming that he would not have been captured and become a POW. Instead, he let a very temporary condition permanently prevent him from showing just how much of a brave hero he is.
Of course, his loyal supporters are trying to explain it away, to minimize the damage, so that they can of course go back to unthinkingly supporting and adoring this man without the inconvenience of having to think of how glaringly obvious he does not match the levels of genius and infallibility that he lays claim to. My brother had a small run-in with a Trump supporter online recently which he told me about. He claimed that the teleprompter did indeed get it wrong, much like Trump claimed, and that he meant to say the Continental Army secured the "air, ports" with a comma in between. Yes, they secured the air, and the ports. Because, you know, it is so important to secure the air during an 18th century war like that.
All they want to do is virtually worship this man, regardless of the damage that they are doing to the country in so doing. And he obviously knows this, and takes full advantage, making sure to keep stringing them along in their blind allegiance, and then making the rest of us pay, literally.
What times we live in. We have some truly remarkable and wonderful things and achievements, yet we also have some remarkable failures. And in this country, Trump si the most glaringly obvious failure that we have, right at the top!
What a man. What a leader.
What a Fake President. What an fake genius.
What a real con artist and immature brat.
