Not too long ago, I wrote about how New Jersey finally put their politics aside and managed to legalize recreational marijuana, which also happened to be the will of the voters of the now fittingly titled Garden State back in November by a two-to-one margin.
Well, there is big news on the marijuana legalization front again.
Yesterday, our neighbors to the south also legalized recreational marijuana. That’s right: recreational use of marijuana is now legal in Mexico.
My son and I visited one town in Mexico, Nogales, some years ago, during two separate trips out west to Arizona. I always wanted to visit Mexico more thoroughly, particularly to visit Mexico City, as well as some of the ancient pyramids and temples. Plus, it has many of those wonderful saguaro trees, as well as some spectacular mountains.
This, however, would be just one more reason to visit old Mexico!
This is a triumph, and shows that the move to legalize weed is truly spreading across the globe. Recreational use of marijuana is now either legal or, at least, decriminalized throughout much of Latin America, as well as Canada and over a dozen states in the United States. Also, it is legal in South Africa.
It should be noted that medical marijuana is legal in many more countries and American states, including Australia, New Zealand, Thailand (where it is admittedly technically still illegal, but not enforced), Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Zambia, and numerous countries in Europe, as well as Israel.
Should this trend continue, we will likely see marijuana being legalized in many more countries all around the world in the near future.
Frankly, it’s about time.
Meanwhile, I am proud of our neighbors in Mexico for moving ahead with progress and legalizing recreational use of marijuana.
