PSG continues to win, managing a convincing shutout win over Brest yesterday.

The Parisians took the lead when a very familiar name, Kylian Mbappé, broke through to score in the 9th minute, giving PSG the early lead.

Pablo Sarabia was able to notch another goal for PSG in the 44th minute, for a commanding 2-0 lead just before halftime.

In the second half, PSG's defense remained firm, holding Brest scoreless. Then Mbappé's second goal of the game in the 73rd minute put the game out of reach for Brest.

Despite the win, PSG still trails Lille in the Ligue 1 standings, with Lille at 62 points after 28 games played, to 40 points for PSG in the same number of games. Lyon is also nipping at the heels of PSG, with 59 points in 28 games played thus far.

  1. For the record, this wasn't a Ligue 1 match, but a Coupe de France match. PSG's victory doesn't impact Ligue 1 standings, but it enables the club to advance to the Round of 16.

  2. It is indeed. But the Coupe de France is open to both Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 clubs. Per Wikipedia: "The Coupe de France, also known as the Coupe Charles Simon, is the premier knockout cup competition in French football organized by the French Football Federation." It's basically the second most prestigious honor in French soccer, behind only winning the Championnat (i.e. being crowned Ligue 1 champions, or to a lesser degree, Ligue 2 champions.)

  3. Correction: "it's open to all amateur and professional football clubs in France, including clubs based in the overseas departments and territories.", again per Wikipedia. The now defunct Coupe de la Ligue was just for Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 clubs, and was discontinued after last year's edition.
