Winnipeg Blue Bombers Outlast Hamilton Tiger-Cats in OT to Remain Grey Cup Champions

Grey Cup/Coupe Grey

Winnipeg Blue Bombers 33, Hamilton Tiger-Cats 25 (OT)

Well, another CFL season is now in the books.

Winnipeg quarterback Zach Collaros named Most Valuable Player of the game. Overall, he completed 21 of 32 passes for 240 yards and two touchdowns, although he also had two INT’s. His leading receiver was Darvin Adams, who hauled in five catches for 61 yards and a touchdown. On the ground, Andrew Harris gained 80 yards on 18 carries. The time of possession was split fairly evenly between the two teams, with Hamilton actually having the slight edge. The two teams were also fairly even in yards and first downs gained, with Winnipeg having a total of 319 yards and 17 first downs, to 315 yards and 18 first downs for Hamilton. Hamilton had significantly more penalties, with eight for 65 yards, to just four for 40 yards for the Blue Bombers. Finally, the Tiger-Cats committed three turnovers, to just one for the champion Blue Bombers.

It was not easy for Winnipeg. They were down 19-10 entering the fourth quarter, and then fell behind 22-10 a little more than three quarters into the fourth. But they scored numerous times after that to rally, even taking the lead, and slowly building it up to three points. However, Hamilton’s Michael Domagala was able to notch a 13-yard field goal attempt in the final seconds to force overtime.

However, Winnipeg clinched the win in overtime when Collaros found Darvin Adams in the end zone for a 13-yard touchdown. The two point conversion was good, as Collaros threw to Rasheed Bailey, and the Blue Bombers were up by eight.

On Hamilton’s next possession, a pass by Hamilton's Jeremiah Masoli was deflected several times, but it eventually was intercepted by Kyrie Wilson. That iced the result, and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers won their second straight Grey Cup championship.
