Kansas City at Denver - The Chiefs were the hottest team in the league entering that game last week. But once they finally lost a game to end that strong winning streak, they lost more than just that. They lost control of their own destiny to have home field advantage and the bye in the playoffs. They were the number one seed, but are not in that position right now at the moment, and need to rely on winning this game, plus having the Titans lose on Sunday, to see if they can get back to that number one seed. Might just be a little bit too much to ask, although time will tell. But KC certainly should be fired up enough for this game, which ends their regular season. Playoff bye or not, they do not want to enter the playoffs on a two game skid, and besides, they have obvious incentive to win this one. Plus, they have the talent to get by the Broncos, who have hardly looked like the legitimate playoff contenders that they appeared to be earlier in the season. Look for the Chiefs to dictate the tempo early, and to earn themselves a convincing road win against a divisional opponent they know well. My pick: Kansas City
Dallas at Philadelphia - The Cowboys lost any chance that they had at home field advantage last weekend, with that loss and the win by Green Bay. That loss dropped Dallas all the way to fourth in the seeding, and I am not sure how much they are willing to commit for the chance - not by any means a certainty - that they might move up in the standings. After all, it is not a guarantee that either the Rams or the Buccaneers will lose, which means that the 'Boys will likely be the fourth seed no matter what they do. That translates to them likely sitting out some starters, or at least pulling them out of the game early, in order to maximize the chances of having a lineup that is healthy and as close to full strength as possible once the postseason begins. Meanwhile the Eagles have every incentive to win, because if they manage this one, they are in. Yes, the win would assure them a playoff spot finally, once and for all. And against a Cowboys team that will likely not be at full strength, the Eagles really should manage to pull it off here. My pick: Philadelphia
