Kansas City 28, Denver 24- Kansas City has been one of the top two seeds on the AFC side for the past four season. They wanted to be that again this season, and even had a chance at the top seed for a second straight season, and a third time overall during that four year stretch. With it would come home field advantage throughout the playoffs, and that desirable week off to rest before the divisional round of the playoffs. With all that to fight for, KC wanted to win, but they had to hold off a tough challenge from Denver, who were intent on getting one last win before the offseason, and to play spoilers. However, KC was not going to be denied. The Chiefs held onto the ball for over 33 minutes, accumulating 390 yards and 28 first downs to 364 yards and 18 first downs for the Broncos. There was only one turnover in the game, but it proved to be a crucial one. Denver coughed up the ball in the fourth quarter while trying to cling to a 21-20 lead, when Nick Bolton picked up a fumble and returned it 86 yards for the defensive touchdown. Patrick Mahomes was successful in running the ball for the two-point conversion, and the Chiefs were up by a touchdown. The Broncos did get a field goal to get within four points, but the Chiefs ultimately held to preserve this important win. With the Titans winning on Sunday, this win was not enough for Kansas City to earn the top seed. However, they finish this season with a 12-5 mark, and are nevertheless the number two seed for the AFC, even if this is the first time during that stretch where they will not benefit from the bye, which had been extended to the number two seeds in both conferences in seasons prior to this one, with the new playoff format now altered for seven teams. As for the Broncos, they end the season with four straight losses to finish the season at 7-10. My pick: Accurate
Dallas 51, Philadelphia 26 - The Cowboys went into this game hoping to climb their way in the seeding for the NFC playoffs. Anything from the number two seed to the number four seed was possible, although Dallas had lost their chance at the number one seed, home field advantage throughout the NFC playoffs, and that all-important playoff bye week with the lost last weekend. But Dallas romped to victory over an Eagles team that mostly sat out their starters, as they prepare for the playoff game next weekend, when they visit Tampa Bay. The 'Boys only held onto the ball for under 28 minutes, yet they piled up 475 yards and 22 first downs, to just 315 yards and 22 first downs for the Eagles. Philly also had one turnover. This game was actually close until late in the second quarter, when Dallas broke a game deadlocked at 17 apiece with not one but two touchdowns. That changed the tone of the game entirely, and it was never close again. Dak Prescott passes for 295 yards and threw five touchdown passes, while Ezekiel Elliott picked up 87 yards on 18 carries. The Cowboys scored 51 points overall, the first time that Dallas had ever scored 50 points in a road game. They also finished this season with a franchise record 530 points overall. This win improves their record to 12-5 on the season, and with the Rams losing, the Cowboys moved up to the third overall seed in the NFC. They will host San Francisco next weekend. Philadelphia finishes the regular season at 9-8 and are the seventh seed, and they will play Tom Brady and the defending champion Buccaneers next week. My pick: Accurate
