Tensions have continued to mount in eastern Europe as Putin continues to appear to be weighing the possibility of invading Ukraine. Many feel that he is testing the resolve of Western nation, believing them to be weak.
American President Joe Biden has claimed that the United States would work with other European nations in taking swift action against Russia should indeed Putin decide to go ahead with military action against Ukraine. Currently, he has been talking with military officials regarding the possibility of bolstering American troop presence in the Baltics.
There was a briefing statement issued yesterday that summarized what is supposed to be the official American position at the moment:
"President Biden was briefed on the current state of Russian military operations on Ukraine's borders and discussed both our ongoing efforts to de-escalate the situation with diplomacy and our range of deterrence measures that are being coordinated closely with our Allies and partners, including ongoing deliveries of security assistance to Ukraine. President Biden again affirmed that should Russia further invade Ukraine, the United States will impose swift and severe consequences on Russia with our Allies and partners."
