Thursday Night Football: Seattle Seahawks 23, Arizona Cardinals 20
This result was not exactly a shock. However, I had expected the Cardinals to pull off the win.
Yet, the Seahawks were able to score a touchdown late in the first quarter and another one late in the second quarter to grab a commanding 14-3 lead by the time that they headed into the locker rooms for halftime.
They added another field goal fairly early in the third quarter before the Cardinals finally found a spark of life on offense and began to rally.
However, it was apparently too little, too late. The Seahawks did not exactly explode with offensive points and yards after that. In fact, the Arizona defense contained them to field goals in the second half. But they got three of them, and that was enough.
On the day, the Seahawks found good balance between the passing game and the running game. They produced 384 yards of offense, to just 253 for Arizona. They held onto the ball for over 32 minutes, and had only one turnover, while the Cards had two.
Overall, however, it was mostly those two touchdown drives in the first half which gave the Seahawks the momentum. Then they held off the Cardinals just enough in the second half to preserve the victory.
With the win, the Seahawks improve to 3-1 on the year, and at least temporarily go ahead of the Rams into second place in the NFC West, while also pulling within half a game of the undefeated 49ers. Meanwhile, this loss drops Arizona to 2-2, and at least for now, they are in last place in the NFC West.
My pick: Inaccurate
