In just a couple of hours as I write this, the first Sunday of the new NFL season will kick off.
Of course, we already had two games played. And I was able to correctly predict the outcome of both of those games. After two games, I have a perfect two right and none incorrect record.
Now comes the real test: the rest of the games for the weekend. There are fourteen games to be played later today, and one tomorrow night.
This will be short, since time is of the essence. Not much explanation.
So here are my predictions:
NY Giants at Washington - Tough game for the G-Men to start the season. They looked good in preseason. But the Commanders will prove a bit much for them today. My pick: Washington
NY Jets at Pittsburgh - Gang Green has a real shot at winning this one. Facing their old QB, Aaron Rodgers. But the Steelers are always tough, and I think they'll take this one, although it should be close. My pick: Pittsburgh
Carolina at Jax - Hard to tell with this one. Guess I'll go with the Jaguars, since they are the home team. My pick: Jax
Miami at Indianapolis - The Fins are back. They often tend to look very explosive early in the season. Not sure how good they will be, but they should be able to hold off Indy in this one. My pick: Miami
Tampa Bay at Atlanta - This is a tough pick 'em kind of a game. Guess I'll take the Falcons for the upset win. My pick: Atlanta
Arizona at New Orleans - The Cardinals are my pick to be the sleeper this season. They should be able to win one on the road in the Big Easy to start the new season off right. My pick: Arizona
Las Vegas at New England - Another tough game to call. But with home field advantage, the Pats should be able to just get over the hump and win their first game of the new season. My pick: New England
Cincinnati at Cleveland - The two Ohio teams start the season off against one another. Should be interesting. The Bengals can really do things this season....if they stay healthy. My pick: Cincinnati
San Francisco at Seattle - The NFC West battle begins right away. The 49ers will likely rebound from a disastrous 2024 and start the new season with a road win against a division rival. My pick: San Francisco
Tennessee at Denver - The Titans may be one of the worst teams in the league this season. The Broncos are improving. This should be a big win for the Orange Crush. My pick: Denver
Houston at LA Rams - The Rams and Texans both figure to be playoff contenders, and possibly even division winners. Should be a good one. But home field helps lift the Rams over the Texans today. My pick: LA Rams
Detroit at Green Bay - A great divisional game right off the bat from possibly (probably) the two best teams in the NFC North. I like the Lions to just slide past the Pack in this one. My pick: Detroit
Sunday Night Football: Baltimore at Buffalo - One of the best active rivalries in the league. The Ravens want revenge for getting bounced by the Bills in Buffalo last January. But the Bills should squeak by in another tight contest. My pick: Buffalo
Monday Night Football: Minnesota at Chicago - Another NFC North showdown. The Bears will make improvements this season. The Vikings are unpredictable. They could be really good this season, or they might be just another team. Always difficult to tell with them. But I like Da Bears in a close one. My pick: Chicago
Bonus: US Open Men's Final: Sinner over Alcaraz, probably in four sets.
