Bill Maher Rightly Points Out Flaws in Current Approach to Legally Pin Trump in Manhattan

While I actually disagree with Maher on some things here, I do feel like he has a real point here. There are some people, supporters of Trump, who will look at this as just the latest in a long line of attempts to get Donald Trump. Furthermore, it does seem like a lot of this is politically motivated.

Personally, I do believe that Trump has gotten away with more outright criminal behavior than anyone else I know of. And Maher makes this point very clearly. Why go the sensationalist route, which has, as best, a dubious track record? Why not go outright for where Trump is clearly compromised, and on serious charges, such as interfering in the Georgia elections? He is recorded as "asking" - that is to say, pressuring - some local officials to "find" him more than 11,000 votes. That's outright election interference, and yes, it is a serious criminal offense.

Then, of course, there's the whole January 6th debacle, which Trump so far still has eluded any real responsibilities or ramifications for his role.

Sickening.

Even with the current trial in Manhattan, it is supposed to be about business malpractice. And there were apparently some real charges there.

So why go the sex scandal route? Maher makes a good point, that this is not shocking. Everyone knows that Trump had the affair with Stormy Daniels, and then paid the hush money. It is not shocking. Also, sex scandals did not work in the past. Just look at Bill Clinton.

The glee which some Democrats and self-identified liberals are taking with finally seeing Trump have a day in court is, frankly, disappointing, and my suspicion is that Maher might just be right. It may also be self-defeating, as well.
