Bonne fΓͺte du Canada!

Happy Canada Day!
Yes, I am posting this the better part of a week after Canada Day. In fact, it is already a couple of days after the Fourth of July.
Nevertheless, I am posting this because it felt important.
This is from Steve Schmidt, and I recently published a blog entry about something from a video which he recently posted. While I certainly do not always agree with Schmidt, I do appreciate his anti-Trump messages and position.
In this newer video, which was posted on Canada Day, he urges Americans to start paying attention to Canada. moreover, he urges Americans to start treating Canadians with respect, something which is noticeably lacking in this era of Trump and MAGA dominating American politics. Indeed, trashiness and obnoxious, childish ridicule has been a staple in what passes for MAGA politics, and it grew tiresome long ago. This trademark disrespect has been particularly pronounced by Trump when it comes to Canada. Needlessly and without any known provocation, Trump started picking on Canada, continually referring to them as the "51st state" and calling then Prime Minister Justin Trudeau "Governor Trudeau."
Let's keep in mind that Trump is the sitting American president, and that he has actively threatened to take military actions in other countries, including Panama, Mexico, Gaza and, of course, Greenland. So routinely undermining Canada's sovereignty can easily be interpreted not so much as a harmless joke, as MAGA morons might insist, but as a threat that should be taken seriously.
To his credit, current Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has taken a very strong, no nonsense approach towards Trump and the United States. In fact, he has almost become the de facto leader among nations which were allied to the United States in the pre-Trump era, although I am not entirely sure that any nation (with maybe the exception of Israel) can be counted as an ally of Trump's version of the United States. Carney has been described by some as the adult in the room, and that is indeed what it often feels like. He did not accept any nonsense from Trump and forced this wannabe dictator to show him and Canada a little more respect. Also, he has led the way for middle powers like Canada to begin to rely less on the United States, since under Trump, the U.S. apparently is making a point of not treating traditional allies with any degree of respect, let alone friendliness.
To that end, Schmidt urges Americans to apologize to Canadians on behalf of the United States. He reminds Americans of just how important this friendship and alliance has historically been, and makes the case that the United States is stronger with a strong and independent Canada.
Take a look. It's worth viewing:
