This day is a very important date in African history.
In 1960, Ivory Coast, Dahomey (now known as Benin), Upper Volta (now Burkina Faso) and Niger all declared independence from France.
Also on this day in 1960, Moise Tsjombe declared Katanga independent from the Congo (later Zaire, now known as the Democratic Republic of Congo). However, this was short-lived and has not lasted. Katanga remains a part of the Congo to this day.
Anyway, I just wanted to acknowledge the significance of this day in history for Africa.
