The Site of Adolf Hitler's Birthplace Has Been Converted to a Police Station to Erase Nazi Links

In an effort to block neo-Nazi tourism, the birthplace of Adolf Hitler on April 20th in 1889 in Braunau am Inn, Austria, has been turned into a police station. 

This ended years of controversy over what to do with the site. The owner had refused to sell the house, but a court ruled that the government had the right to expropriate it. There was some talk of demolishing it, but this never came to fruition. For years, it had housed charity organizations. However, it had stood empty since 2011.

There is a stone memorial just outside of the building in Braunau am Inn, which borders Germany. it bears the inscription:

“For freedom, democracy and liberty. Never again fascism. Millions of dead remind us.”
