NFL 2019 Thursday Night Football Week 3 Preview - Tennessee at Jacksonville

So, the AFC South once again looks like a division that is very tight and uncertain, with a bunch of teams that look great on defense, and so-so on offense, maybe with the possible exception of the Indianapolis Colts, although that remains to be seen.

Tonight, the Titans will go to Jacksonville to face the winless Jaguars. Both teams have tough, physical defenses, and both teams are trying to get back to the playoffs, which they both reached in 2017, but failed to reach last season. Both teams also won playoff games then, with the Titans winning one, and Jax having won two.

But both teams also have made those memories feel a bit distant with their play since then. That is particularly true of the Jaguars, who won the AFC South in 2017, and went all the way to the AFC Championship Game, testing the Patriots all the way to the end of the game, before ultimately losing. They started off 2-0 last season, beating New England in the process, but then collapsed. They have won all of three of their sixteen games played since.

Of course, they want to avoid an 0-2 hole. However, their offense is struggling. They have scored 38 points in their two games thus far, which actually is not entirely bad. Yet, they lost both games, and were not very competitive in their first game against Kansas City.

The Titans, at least, are not the Chiefs. They do not have that kind of firepower on offense, either, much like the Jaguars. However, Tennessee is a big, strong, physical team. Their defense is one of the best in the league, and their offense can often wear teams down with it's size and physicality.

Expect a low-scoring contest, and one which probably could go either way. Both teams enter this game with expectations to win, but only one will be able to do so. I believe that the Titans, ultimately, will come out on top, in a similar slugfest to the Jax-Houston game last week.

My prediction: Tennessee
