NFL 2019 Thursday Night Football Week 3 Review - Jaguars Pound Titans for First Win of Season

Jacksonville Jaguars

Tennessee dominated the time of possession battle by over ten minutes, produced 21 first downs to only 12 for Jax, and had nearly 50 yards more of total offense than the Jaguars did.

So naturally, they got dominated, falling behind quickly by 14-0 within the first ten minutes of play, and never seriously got back into the game. The Jaguars added a field goal in the second quarter to take a 17-0 lead into the locker room by halftime, and kept Tennessee off the scoreboard through the first three quarters. The Titans did manage to finally score a touchdown to give themselves a shot early in the fourth quarter, but the Jaguars managed a field goal to make the score 20-7. Then, their defense continued to do a great job, keeping the struggling Titans offense from scoring any more points, and icing the first win for Jacksonville.

Gardner Minshew II completed 20 of 34 passes for 204 yards and two touchdowns. Leonard Fournette added 66 yards on 15 carries on the ground. On the defensive side of things, the Jax defense managed to sack Mariota an astonishing nine times. Clearly, the Titans did not want that, and that likely impacted his game, as well as whatever chances Tennessee had to get back into this game.

In a losing cause for the Titans, Marcus Mariota completed 23 of 40 passes for 304 yards. Those nine sacks by the Jaguar defense means that Mariota has been sacked 17 times this season already. If the Titans want to try to preserve the health of their quarterback, they need to do a better job than that. On the ground attack for the Titans offense, Derrick Henry added 44 yards and the only touchdown the Titans would score - hell, the only points the Titans would produce all night - on 17 carries.

This was Jacksonville's first win of the season, raising their record to 1-2. Meanwhile, the Titans lose their second game in a row, dropping their record to 1-2, which means that these two teams are tied at the bottom of the AFC South, depending on what the other two teams in the division, Indy and Houston, manage to do this upcoming weekend.

My prediction: Inaccurate
