We keep hearing about how unsettled everything is in Iran today. Like with other Middle East countries (especially but not exclusively Afghanistan), a very conservative, clerical government is being challenged by people within the country, perhaps particularly women.
The thing is, Iran seems so far away and, yes, foreign. It is a country that has faced all sorts of sanctions, and so we do not too often hear about things there, let alone get a glimpse of what life is really like within the country.
Below is a link to an article that at least claims to give us a bit of a glimpse of what things are actually like inside of Iran. There are sham trials often leading to executions of activists on trumped up charges. It took the regime some time to adjust to the current unrest and protests, but they appear to have found a formula, which has helped them to retain power during such turbulent times.
