CFL Opens New 2023 Season With Slate of Interesting Games in Week One

Well, the CFL is back. The new 2023 season just started. And the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, the most accomplished team in the league for the prior three seasons, were back in action, as they hosted the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. The Blue Bombers had beaten Hamilton in two consecutive Grey Cups before losing to Toronto in last year's Gray Cup, when Winnipeg had been attempting a third straight championship.

They may have missed out on winning that third straight Gray Cup, but they are still considered a threat to be an elite team again in the CFL this season. And you have to figure that they have a real chance at reaching a fourth straight Gray Cup at the end of this season, should things work out well for them. They still appear capable.

Winnipeg built up a huge lead early on, but then had to struggle a bit just to hang on, as Hamilton mounted a serious rally to try and come back. Still, that comeback attempt fell short in the end, and the Blue Bombers were able to secure a win to start the season right.

Below are the highlights of that game:

Other results in the CFL on this opening weekend:

Montreal 19, Ottawa 12

Saskatchewan 17, Edmonton 13

British Columbia 25, Calgary 15

Bye week for Toronto
