Despite Being Richer & More Powerful Than Ever Before, Wealthiest Americans Still Don't Pay Their Fair Share of Taxes

One of the biggest, most persistent, and most frustrating aspects of American politics today is the apparent unwillingness among far too many Americans to make the very wealthiest Americans pay their fair share of taxes. Since they are extremely wealthy and powerful, they can and do hire specialist lawyers to find every and all possible loopholes to get out of paying their share of taxes. So on top of all of that, we certainly do not need policies and politicians who accommodate these efforts to cheat the system - and all of us hard-working, law-abiding citizens along with it - and pay less, even far less, than what they owe.

Earlier today, I ran into this particular post on Facebook. It is from Americans For Progressive Change, and focuses on Robert Reich, who factually shows us the harm that the wealthiest Americans are responsible for. Think about this: in 2020, the total wealth of the top 1 percent of Americans added up to $30 trillion. Now, four years later, it stands at $44.6 trillion, which Reich points out is an increase of nearly 50 percent.

Are you 50 percent wealthier than you were four years ago?

My guess is that you are not. Especially not with the ridiculous inflation, which has persisted for years now. It has made life very difficult for most of us, as it truly feels like life itself sometimes does not feel affordable. And while everybody claims different reasons for the inflation, with these kinds of numbers, can we simply eliminate the possibility that there is some serious, and well-organized, price-gouging involved from the wealthiest and most powerful people? As if they needed still more money.

So it seemed worth sharing this, because this is really starting to be a real problem. It sure sometimes feels like we are entering a new, technologically advanced version of feudalism for our modern world. I believe that we should fight this.
