Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor Curses Aspect of Modern Technology Which Has 'Mortally Wounded' Too Many Artists

Trent Reznor, the frontman for the legendary Nine Inch Nails, who came out of the whole alternative nineties music scene, has bemoaned the state of music today. And it was not focused on the musical style or leanings of popular music, which has gravitated more towards pop and hip=hop in these days, or anything to do with genre.

No, Reznor instead focused on the excessive and unintentionally damaging aspect of the double-edged sword of our modern technology. As good and convenient as that modern technology have made things in certain ways, Reznor pointed out another aspect that has definitely and permanently altered the world of music (and art more generally). He declared that streaming has, in his words, "mortally wounded a whole tier of artists."

In the past, streaming has allowed leaks of music from popular artists before they are ready for the release of new material to the public. Also, according to Reznor, there are simply terrible payouts, making it far more difficult for artists to actually try and make a real living off of their artwork, particularly music in this case.

Indeed, he has a point. After all, many artists no longer even bother releasing whole albums any longer, which was what they did in the past, and for many, many decades.

Now, it is all about immediacy, about instant gratification. So artists will release single songs, or maybe a couple of songs along the way.

Below are the links to two articles, both of which focus on Reznor's complaints regarding this harmful aspect to modern technology's impact on music and art more generally. Take a look by clicking on the links below, and enjoy:
