French Open/ Roland Garros 2025 Recap: Carlos Alcaraz Stages Massive Comeback & Gets Past Jannik Sinner to Win

The French Open is officially over for another year.

At the end, we had a truly great French Open Men's Final, which pitted the top two ranked men in the world.

It was Jannik Sinner of Italy, the number one ranked player, who had won the past two Grand Slam titles at Flushing Meadows last year and the Australian Open earlier this year, against Spain's Carlos Alcaraz, who was the defending champion in Paris, and also won Wimbledon last year.

For a while, it looked like Jannik Sinner was cruising, as he took the first two sets. Very few people can come back from being down two sets to win.

Yet, Alcaraz hung in there, He fought hard and won the third set, then took the fourth set, which proved to be a nailbiter, going to a tibreak.

Then it looked like Alcaraz might cruise, as he broke Sinner early in the fifth and deciding set. That's the way that it continued until Alcaraz was serving for the match at 5-4, when Sinner managed to break him right back. They continued on serve until the final set went into the tiebreak.

At that point, however, it was all Alcaraz.

In the end, Alcaraz outlasted Sinner 4-6, 6-7 (7-4), 6-4, 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (10-2).

For the second straight year, Alcaraz lifts La Coupe des Mousquetaires - the prestigious trophy that goes to the champion on the men's side - right on the center of the Court Philippe-Chatrier at the Stade Roland Garros. This is also the fifth overall Grand Slam championship for Alcaraz, having now won two French Open titles, two Wimbledons, and on US Open.

On the women's side, it also was a feature match between the top two ranked women in the world. It was the first time since the 1984 French Open that the top two ranked players met in both single's finals.

That match featured American Coco Gauff against the number one ranked woman, Aryna Sabalenka. After dropping the first set, Gauff prevailed 6-7 (7-5), 6-2, 6-4. It was the second career Grand Slam title for Gauff, having also won the 2023 US Open.

In both matches, the number two ranked played beat out the number one ranked player.
