Voivod
Yes, it was on this day in 1988 that Voivod began to really flex their musical muscles and released an album that sounded like nothing else that anybody was doing at the time.
While my personal favorite albums from Voivod are actually Nothingface and The Outer Limits, I nevertheless would give honorable mention to Dimension Hatröss. That was the album which, to me, marked the point of departure from sounding more or less like many other metal bands at the time. This album truly marked the moment when this unique band truly began to go in a very original and incredibly creative direction.
Since then, the band has produced some incredible stuff, much of it truly allowing this band to stand on their own, musically. But it all began with the landmark Dimension Hatröss album, which was released on this day 37 years ago.
