A couple of days ago, the New York Knicks fired their head coach, Tom Thibodeau.
Such a move by a major professional sports franchise would make headlines under normal conditions. But this one stands out for a couple of reasons.
First and most obvious, of course, is that this involves New York's biggest NBA franchise.
Also, it comes after the Knicks unquestionably enjoyed their most successful season in a quarter of a century.
True, the progress had been slow. But the Knicks got past the defending NBA champion Boston Celtics before bowing out to the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals. So they were knocking on the doorstep of reaching the NBA Finals.
It just seems strange to make such a move after Thibodeau led this team to such a level of success.
Frankly, I am not certain that this was a particularly wise move. But I guess time will tell for sure.
Let's see what happens.
