So one of the places that had grown significantly on my list of places to visit the next time I was in Montréal was the Parc Jean-Drapeau. I can remember really only visiting it once, back in the summer of 1992 with my brother and a friend. We went to La Ronde, which was already closed for the season this time around. So I visited the other parts of the island, which I do not remember ever having really visited before.
For the most part, it was a brief visit done by car. Originally, I intended to go around the city by Metro, but I was in a different and unfamiliar part of Longueil. I did not see the station, and then saw a sign for the Pont Jacques Cartier. Then I kind of shrugged and headed there, and took the exit to the 'Île Sainte-Hélène, where the park is located.
Now, it was admittedly not the longest visit. Far from an extended visit, I mostly circled around the island (repeatedly, albeit by accident) and would get out of the car to take pictures. There was a lot that I needed to do on this day. So a more extensive and complete trip will need to wait until some future visit. What I found out was that this would definitely be worth it.
The park is very attractive. Perhaps that was particularly the case since it was autumn and at peak colors. But there are some really beautiful spots, which includes the Fort de l'Île Sainte-Hélène (Saint Helen Island Fort), as well as the Biosphère de Montréal (The Montreal Biosphere). It's a simple metallic sphere, yet I always find out attractive. A relatively rare example of how modern architecture can still be attractive.
Much later on, after the Renaud Symphonique concert and as I started on my way home, there was a temptation to visit the island again and take some pictures, particularly of the Biosphère de Montréal illuminated at night. I had thought about doing this on the evening when I first arrived, but was simply too exhausted to really go out after the long drive from Hillsborough. But on Friday evening, facing an equally long drive, I just wanted to get going. So no stopping at or near the Biosphère to take some pictures of it at night. Figured that the next time I come to the city, it would be a priority. And this time, I will try to make sure that it does not take seven years between visits.
Anyway, while these pictures below were taken strictly during daylight, it seems like they nevertheless came out fairly decently. So I thought that this would be a good opportunity to publish these pictures in a dump of them all, before making room on my phone and getting rid of most or even all of them.
Take a look and enjoy.
Below are the rest of the pictures which I took from the visit to the Parc Jean-Drapeau on l'Île Sainte-Hélène (Saint Helen Island Fort). Enjoy:
