CFL Update for Late October - Regular Season Finale Weekend

The 2026 CFL regular season is now done. There was a push for the playoffs by several teams, and one game between two teams which missed out entirely on the postseason race.

Let's take a look at what happened on   regular season weekend of the 2026 regular season in the CFL:

Montreal 33, Toronto 16  - The Alouettes won their regular season finale, downing the Argonauts convincingly. Thus, the Alouettes ended the regular season, fittingly, with the best overall record in the CFL, since they seemed to have the best overall record for most of the season. They will enjoy a bye next weekend and await the winner of the Eastern Final. Despite a less than overwhelming 9-9  record, the Argos will host that playoff game in Toronto when Winnipeg comes to town next weekend in the East Semifinals.

Hamilton 35, Ottawa 22 - The good news for the Redblacks? They won a game last weekend (just barely), and so did not finish the 2026 season winless. Also, this horrible season for them is finally over, and they can put it behind them. Because the bad news is that they were still historically bad, ending with a 1-17 record. That has to rank as among the very worst records ever recorded in CFL history. The Hamilton Tigercats were hardly a model of consistency or success themselves. However, they did win this one to finish 6-12, as they also put this forgettable season behind them and start to think about preparing for next season. both of these teams will be watching the playoffs on television, as both were eliminated weeks ago.

Winnipeg 34, BC Lions 10  - The Lions lost to the Blue Bombers in this one. Yet, it really did not matter much, as they finish with a 10-8 record and get to host a playoff game, when Saskatchewan comes to Vancouver next weekend. The Blue Bombers were the ones who really needed this game to qualify. To their credit, they went out and took it, as they finish with a 9-9 record. Not great, but it is enough to qualify them for the postseason, as they get ready to travel to Toronto to take on the Argonauts in the Eastern Semifinal next weekend.

Saskatchewan 16, Edmonton 9 - The Elks lost to the Roughriders in this one. Yet, it really did not matter for them, as they had already clinched the West Division and the playoff bye, finishing with a record of 13-5. They did not finish with the best overall record, but that was not so important to them as to risk injuries to any starters. So they can sit back and watch the West Semifinal to see who they will get to host for the Western Final the following weekend. Meanwhile, the Roughriders finish with a 10-8 record to end the regular season and now head to Vancouver to face the BC Lions in the Western Semifinal, while Edmonton awaits the winner.
