Recently, the Toronto Raptors obtained Marc Gasol from the Memphis Grizzlies.
The Raptors have looked like a serious contender in the NBA, and seem like one of the elite teams in the Eastern Conference as the playoffs begin to loom near.
So, the question is whether or not this acquisition is what the Raptors need to make a serious run at an NBA title. Toronto looked very good last year in the NBA's regular season, but after getting past the Washington Wizards in the first round, they were swept by the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
This year, the Cavaliers will be nowhere to be found in the postseason, and Toronto finds themselves presently as the number two seed in the Eastern Conference, behind the Milwaukee Bucks. So, can they get past the hurdle, and qualify for what would be the franchise's first ever Eastern Conference Finals appearance? If so, can they win and reach the NBA Finals?
Let me not go farther than that, because at this point, all of that is speculation. Once the playoffs roll around, we should have a better idea.
For now, though, Marc Gasol's older brother, Pau Gasol, is applauding the move by Memphis that brought his younger brother to an NBA title contender. Pau Gasol himself won two rings with the Lakers, and helped that franchise reach three straight NBA Finals from 2008-2010.
