Dallas Stars Win the West

Yup. The Dallas Stars surprised me (in a pleasant way) and dominated the Las Vegas Knights with a tight win in overtime of Game 5, to decisively win the series,, four games to one, winning the Western Conference Finals.

This is the third time in franchise history that the Dallas Stars (as the Dallas Stars) have qualified for the Stanley Cup Finals, although it should be noted that they also made it once as the Minnesota North Stars, although they ultimately lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins in the good old days of the early nineties. But Dallas made it in 1999, and beat the Buffalo Sabres to hoist the Stanley Cup. They made it again the next year, but failed to clinch back-to-back titles after falling short against the New Jersey Devils.

The Dallas Stars now await the winner of the Eastern Conference Finals between the New York Islanders and the Tampa Bay Lightning. As of right now, Tampa Bay leads that series, three games to one. Game 5 will be played later today.

Admittedly, I would be pulling strongly for the Stars if they wind up facing the Tampa Bay Lightning in the Stanley Cup Finals. If it ends up being the New York Islanders, on the other hand (if the Islands can pull off a huge comeback in their series against the Lightning, that is), then I would have to pull (strongly) for the Islanders, a team that I have actually pretty much always liked.

Let's see what happens...
