Yes, NFL football is back.

Tomorrow night, the Houston Texans will travel to Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City to take on the defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs.

This game will be a rematch of an AFC divisional round game last year. Houston jumped out to an early 24-0 second quarter lead, seemingly on the verge of pulling off what would have amounted to an astonishing upset. Except that the Chiefs woke up shortly thereafter, and in a big way. By halftime, KC was leading, and they dominated the second half to actually blow out the Texans in the game, despite the huge early deficit.

Will the Texans exact a measure of revenge tomorrow night, and spoil the first game in which these Chiefs take the field as the defending Super Bowl champs?

Perhaps. But not likely.

No, it seems to me that the Chiefs should be fired up, with an entire offseason to get healthy, and with every incentive to get off to a hot start in this title defense season. Plus, the Texans cannot exactly feel filled with confidence going into this game, where they saw themselves race off to a very promising start, only to suffer a rather epic collapse, in what turned out to be one of the biggest playoff comebacks in NFL history.

Even if the Texans manage to take a lead, even a big one, you have to wonder if that lead would be safe.

So my prediction – and an easy one to make, frankly – is that the Kansas City Chiefs win this season’s first game, much like they won last season’s last (and obviously most important) game. It would be almost shocking if they fail to do so, frankly.

My pick: Kansas City Chiefs
