Confederate Soldiers Monument in Nashville

As we walked in Nashville's Centennial Park,  we came across this stark reminder of the Confederate past.

This is a monument honoring those who fought for the Confederate cause during the Civil War.

Admittedly,  I was a bit surprised to see this. Not outraged or anything,  but surely a bit surprised to see such a monument in 2021.

Nashville seems like a very cool city.  But this was definitely a reminder that this is,  after all,  Tennessee,  and it does have a racist past,  dating back to slavery and the war fought to preserve that institution,  as well as the genocide of the Native Americans, then obviously extending through the Jim Crow era of strictly enforced legal and social racial segregation.
