I missed publishing this on the actual anniversary of the release of this album. But a day late is better than nothing.
Yes, Green Day's Dookie was released on February 1, 1994. That means that it is now 30 years old, which is rather an astonishing thing to think about. I still remember when they were brand new, exploding onto the music scene. In fact, I saw them at Z-100's Acoustic Christmas concert in December of 1994, by which time they had gotten huge already. Billie Joe came out naked on stage at one point, which I think became kind of one of the famous events in the band's history.
In any case, it just seemed worth sharing this anniversary. I like the album, although it is not my favorite from the band. That would be American Idiot, which was released something like ten years later or so. It took aim at a lot of the nonsense that was going on in the United States, and indeed the world, at the time. They really showed their punk credentials with that one.
Just thought this would be worth noting today (yes, a day late....sorry).
