RIP, John "Paddy" Hemingway

Very sad news being reported from Great Britain earlier today.

The last surviving pilot from the Battle of Britain, one of the defining battles of the early stages of World War II, has died.

John "Paddy" Hemingway fought for the Royal Air Force and was part of the ultimately successful effort to defend Britain from a German invasion. Defeating the Luftwaffe was crucial to preventing the Nazis from reaching and invading the United Kingdom.

This feels like the end of an era. Certainly, there really are few veterans of World War II remaining. Hemingway is the last of the Battle of Britain, having died earlier today at the age of 105.

Gone, but not forgotten.

RIP, John "Paddy" Hemingway.
