In these days, when it seems that we are losing what remains of our clearly fragile American democracy just one year before celebrating the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, we really should make sure that very recent history is not erased. After all, while some Americans clearly are alarmed at everything that is going on, including how our democracy clearly seems to be eroding, we were warned quite clearly about all of this.
Years ago, I remember debating a Trump supporter (against my better judgement, I will admit) about how Trump had declared how he was "greedy" multiple times and had a reputation for grabbing all of the money he could as part of his announcement in 2015 that he would make a run for the presidency. That Trump supporter did not believe me and, predictably, claimed that it was "fake news." Then I added a link to a video clip of Trump expressing exactly that during his announcement of making a presidential run, and that seemed to quiet the Trump supporter. Debate over, although I am sure that it swayed his mind not at all.
Whether or not this has any effect, it feels imperative to remind people that, yes, there were clear warnings. And one of them came just weeks before Trump was elected this past time around. He clearly states that if his supporters vote for him this time, they will never have to vote ever again.
Here is that clip (see below). We cannot say that we were not warned, eh?
How depressing.
And how stupid we Americans collectively are, with the whole world watching.
