We have not had a major mass shooting event in the United States in a while as I write this. At least, not that I can remember hearing a lot about. There still always are news stories, like the guy responsible for the Buffalo supermarket shooting, and how prosecutors are going to aim for the death penalty.
That said, you never know when another one will hit.
Many years ago, on this day in 2013, I posted this on Facebook. And looking through my memories page for this day, I saw this and immediately thought it would be worth sharing here.
This is funny, in a strange, paradoxical, not funny sort of a way. Or perhaps it is funny because it is true, in a real sense. Certainly, it feels like this is what they are often claiming, and what we Americans unfortunately collectively tend to believe too frequently. Actually, that's not true. We have to remember that the gun nut stance is actually a tiny minority among the population. That in fact, most Americans support sensible restrictions to unchecked access to guns.
In any case, here is an old headline from The Onion, which I could not find anywhere anymore, but which I found on Twitter, or X, or whatever the hell they call themselves these days:
The Onion @TheOnion
NRA President: "The only way to stop a bad guy on a killing spree is with a good guy on a killing spree."
