Sophia the Robot Revealing Just How Much Technological Progress Humans Are Making With Human-Like Robots

Sophia the Robot got famous some years ago.

While she is not entirely lifelike, clearly she symbolizes just how much progress in that direction we have come, as well as seemingly holding a promise of how far we will likely eventually go. Maybe all of her movements do not look strictly like a standard human being, but it is amazing to see just how much her face can show human expressions, and facially, just how real she looks. Even the "skin" apparently looks and feels real.

So my question: is this a good thing or a bad thing? Are we growing closer to the world imagined by Steven Spielberg's movie, "Artificial Intelligence?" It sometimes feels like we are moving closer to the movie "Idiocracy." Could it be that we will have a little bit of both? Perhaps a bit of both, with a little bit of "Gattaca" mixed in? Or will our worst fears be realized with a future that bears a closer resemblance to the "Terminator" or "Matrix" movies?

There's no way for us to really know. One way of the other, this robot manages to be simultaneously impressive and a bit scary.

Take a look and see for yourself:
