Another Loss to the Chiefs & Where the Bills Go From Here

Just two days ago as I write this, the Bills suffered another heartbreaking playoff loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

If the 1990's Bills were defined by losing Super Bowls, perhaps the Bills of the first half of the 2020's now will be defined for always losing the most important meetings to the Kansas City Chiefs. It reminds me a bit of the Cleveland Browns, and how they kept losing to the Denver Broncos in the three AFC Championship Game meetings between those two squads in the late eighties. Only perhaps it is worse, because the Bills actually showed - several times - that they can beat Kansas City when they play at their best. They won three regular season meetings which had the feel of postseason intensity to them.

However, once the actual playoffs come around, it always seems like the Bills are the ones who blink, and who exit the playoffs early, while KC advances.

Much like the enormously talented Buffalo Bills teams of the nineties, these Bills also are extremely talented. I have said throughout this season, and still maintain, that when they play their best football, Buffalo really can beat any team in the league.

Still, they face a long and uncertain offseason now. Another defeat to Kansas City will haunt them. However, they still have a lot of talent on both sides of the ball. And they still should feel like legitimate contenders for the title for the immediate future. They still have Josh Allen, and he can still produce some miracles.

One positive sign, also, is that Allen himself at least sounds optimistic about Buffalo's chances of going to the Super Bowl, an was clear that he did not believe that Buffalo's window of opportunity to reach the Super Bowl did not close with this latest crushing playoff defeat.

Why Josh Allen doesn't believe Bills' Super Bowl window is closing despite another playoff loss to the Chiefs by Jordan Dajani, January 22, 2024:

Allen is confident Buffalo will break through
