Feeling Old? Take a Look at These Living Things!

So, are you feeling old lately?

A book is coming out this spring that will be all about really old lives on this planet. It will be called "The Oldest Living Things in the World". You feel old? Just wait until you get to see this article, and perhaps the book that will be coming out soon! Some of these things are really, really old! It will put our relatively brief human lives in some greater perspective!

Here is a brief description of the book, according to an article by Katherine Brooks (see link below):

[Rachel] Sussman worked with biologists to complete the research for the project (not to mention science writer Carl Zimmer has provided the foreword and Hans Ulrich Obrist the essays for the new tome), and the photographer has worked tirelessly to bring awareness to the fragile nature of stromatolites, moss and other overlooked living things. Her 2010 TedTalk educated the world on 2,000-year-old brain coral off the coast of Tobago, while an article posted to Brain Pickings lamented the death of a 3,500 year old Cypress tree.

Even if you do not feel old, this is some pretty fascinating stuff! Just think about all of the things that have happened in recorded history, even those things stretching as far back as to what we call "ancient history". And these living organisms were around during those days! In some cases, they were around for the days before the pyramids in Egypt were built and, in a couple of cases, these things were around from before recorded history! And these things are still around, still alive, to this day! You can go and see them, if you have the means to!

I don't know about you, but I find that pretty fascinating! It also makes me feel positively young by way of comparison! Not just me, personally, but our world culture, and even, perhaps, all of humanity itself!

It's just fascinating stuff!

In any case, below is a link to an article that previews the upcoming book, and has some pictures and a little bit of information on some of these really old, living organisms:
