Yes, France won in an international friendly against Bolivia.
Of course, the defending World Cup champions were supposed to win, but at least they did.
Thomas Lemar scored in the 5th minute to put Les Bleus up fairly early.
Antoine Griezmann followed that up with a score in the 43rd minute, giving the defending champions a 2-0 lead by halftime, and that was where all of the scoring in the game stopped.
Nevertheless, a decent win for France, as they did what was expected of them in this game.
It's rare that I actually find out about a score from your blog, since in this day and age it's very easy to hear who won a sporting event in real time, and I've therefore usually already heard them by the time you mention them. But I'd actually forgotten about this game, so I'm glad that Les Bleus managed to steer clear of letting their fans down. As you may know, "La Verde" didn't take on France at the Stade de France but in Nantes, whose Stade de la Beaujoire has a seating capacity of roughly 35,000. Games against modest opponents are often played in the provinces, sometimes in stadiums with seating capacities of under 20,000, as was the case when the tiny Breton town of Guingamp (which by the way is where Mrs. Ibarburu is from, and where she now lives) hosted the France-Iceland game last year. Anyway, hats off to l'équipe de France for this result.
ReplyDeleteDid not know that she was from there. Honestly can't even say that i had heard of that town before you mentioned it. But like you, I am glad France won this, although in the grand scheme of things for l'Equipe de France, this was not really a very major victory. Still nice to see them win and play as sharply as they did, though.
