Garden State Arrests More People for Possession of Marijuana Than Any Other State, By Far

This seems a bit ridiculous to me.

Just weeks ago, the vote for legalizing cannabis in New Jersey was thwarted and effectively shelved for the remainder of this year, at least in part because of concerns about inequality, and how it could potentially hurt minority communities.

Yet, New Jersey apparently leads the entire nation in marijuana related arrests, and these far and away disproportionately hurt minority communities.

Keep in mind that these are non-violent "offenses" that send people to jail, and which then gives them records, making it potentially quite difficult to find employment and housing once out of prison.

Sometimes, New Jersey feels hopelessly behind the times in certain ways. This feels like one of those, from a supposedly "blue state."

Ridiculous.
