Massive Crowds Turn Out at Hong Kong to Remember the 30th Anniversary of the Tiananmen Square Massacre

The Chinese government has gone to rather extraordinary lengths to hide away efforts to remember the Tiananmen Square Massacre, which took place on June 3rd - 4th, 1989. Apparently, they feel that the reckoning by the Chinese government crackdown on the peaceful protesters might come at a cost, and undermine their own authority, even though three decades have now passed.

However, some people are remembering this event. There was a large crowd estimated at roughly 180,000 people who gathered at Victoria Park, near Hong Kong's Tiananmen vigil, for the anniversary.

It is not a story that the Chinese government wants to get out, not surprisingly. Yet, it is nevertheless encouraging that some people still remember what was crushed, and the possibilities that were ended with the Chinese government's bloody crackdown.
