There were rain delays throughout the day yesterday, and so both of the men's quarterfinals matches were put on hold until earlier today.
When play resumed, the matches largely went according to script. The heavy favorites advanced, looking impressive in doing so.
Dominic Thiem, a finalist here at the French Open last year, and the man many consider to be the heir apparent to Rafael Nadal's mastery on the clay court surfaces, quickly and efficiently dispatched with Russia's Karen Khachanov, 6-2, 6-4, 6-2.
Meanwhile, Novak Djokovic did exactly what was expected of him, dominating and easily defeating rising German star Alexander Zverev in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2, 6-2.
That means that Thiem will not face world number one Novak Djokovic in one semifinal, while of course in the other semifinal, Roger Federer meets clay court master Nadal.
Should be really, really interesting!
