King Con Don went to Europe perhaps hoping for a little break and a distraction from the impeachment proceedings here at home.
Instead, he had to endure one of the most sobering, embarrassing moments in a presidency filled with sobering, embarrassing moments, and this before the cameras of media from all over the world focused on his reactions.
How badly did it go for Trump?
Well, French President Macron publicly fact-checked and refuted Trump's obviously exaggerated assertions that a ton of the terrorists now in Syria and Iraq are from Europe. Macron said "Let's be serious," before this little fact check, while a clearly unhappy Trump sat by, unable to contradict this fact-checking.
Trump was laughed at by other world leaders, once again. This happened before, when he was making a speech at the United Nations. But this time, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson asked French President Emmanuel Macron if that was the reason why he was late, referring to a very long media session by the needy Trump, who notoriously holds long press conferences. Canadian Prime Minister quickly stepped in and mocked Trump, stating that this was ridiculously long, and saying that Trump's team had their jaws to the floor.
Then, a couple more embarrassing, humbling moments (even though a megalomaniac like Trump will never admit to it being a humbling experience), according to an article by Alexander Ma of Business Insider:
At a separate press conference with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Trump openly questioned one of NATO's founding principles, Article 5, which requires members to protect one another if under attack — prompting concern and criticism among NATO officials.
And this:
Retired US Army Gen. Wesley Clark, a former NATO commander, told Business Insider's David Choi that Trump's comments were "a very rough way to play" with the alliance's principles and that "it undercuts deterrence, encourages potential adversaries, and erodes NATO itself."
Since it has now become huge news, and will surely be a prominent part of Trump's legacy, and a glimpse into the way in which the world and world leaders actually views him, as well as his own immature response to this open mockery, here are more details. This is Trudeau explaining what he actually said, as well as some comments by Prime Minister Johnson:
Mr Trudeau said: “Last night I made a reference to the fact there was an unscheduled press conference before my meeting with President Trump, I was happy to take part in it but it was certainly notable.
“We were all surprised and I think pleased to learn that the next G7 will be at Camp David, I think that was an unscheduled announcement and … I think every different leader has teams who every now and then their jaws drop at unscheduled surprises, like that video itself for example.”
During the casual chat, Boris Johnson can be heard asking French President Emmanuel Macron, who had a bilateral meeting with Mr Trump: “Is that why you were late?” Canadian prime minister Justin Trudeau says: “He was late because he takes a 40-minute press conference off the top.”
Later in the conversation, Mr Trudeau adds: “You just watched his team’s jaws drop to the floor.” Mr Johnson called the video “complete nonsense” when he was asked about it later.
A clearly disgruntled Trump left Europe in disgust, and headed back home, where it was just announced by Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi that the Democrats in the House will go ahead with articles of impeachment.
But before he left, Trump took shots at Trudeau when asked about the incident:
"He's two-faced... I find him to be a nice guy, but the truth is I called him out on the fact that he's not paying 2% [of national GDP towards defence] and I guess he's not very happy about it."
Later, Trump himself was caught making a comment that he was apparently unaware was being recorded on microphones, where he expressed pride in claiming that Trudeau was two-faced.
This is what we have now. A 73-year old spoiled man-child, taking pleasure in calling other world leaders names, after being thoroughly embarrassed and fact-checked and having other NATO members question his petty threats which typically followed one of his trademark tantrums.
Remember when Trump said, during his run for the White House, that “the world is laughing at us.” He claimed that once he was in the White House, that laughter would die down, and the world would respect the United States. He claimed that the country was viewed as a joke under weak leaders, presumably meaning particularly President Obama, and then assured us, in typical narcissistic fashion, that “I alone can fix it.”
Right.
Well, with him in charge now, the entire world really does seem to be laughing at us. Laughing for placing such a fraud and a fool in our highest office to begin with. And his scams and bullying just are not working. He is being regarded as the joke that he is, and deservedly so.
Elect a clown, expect a circus. And the world really is laughing now. Only, they are not laughing with us in good spirit, but at us, and especially at the joke of a "leader" that we allowed into our highest office. He had been tirelessly making a mockery of that office, and humiliating the country with his personal conduct and erratic behavior ever since.
It is a dark day for America. One of many that we have seen during this absurd era known as the Trump presidency.
