🏈 NFL Week 16 Monday Night Football Review – Packers Stomp Out Vikings 🏈

Green Bay 23, Minnesota 10

Okay, so I admittedly underestimated the Packers defense. They had not been playing as well in recent weeks as they had earlier this season, and so I had forgotten just how much better that “D” is than in recent seasons. But when they shut down the Vikings in very convincing fashion, holding Minnesota to a mere seven first downs total, the least amount that the Vikings had produced in a home game since 1971, they deserve a ton of credit. Yes, the Pack mostly completely shut down Minnesota, even though the Vikings actually owned the lead until late in the third quarter, when Green Bay just took over the game. The Packers dominated time of possession, as they held onto the ball for well over 37 minutes. They produced 383 total yards of offense, to just 139 for the Vikes. And while they turned the ball over three times, to only once for Minnesota, they still also had more than three times the number of first downs, 22 to 7. Nobody looked awesome or unstoppable on offense, although Packers running back Aaron Jones was very solid, picking up 154 yards and two huge touchdowns on 22 carries. Both of this touchdowns were in the second half. The first was a 12-yard run to give Green Bay the lead, and the second was a 56-yard run that was one of the longest runs of the season for the Pack, and helped put the game out of reach. Green Bay improves to 12-3, and right now, they hold the second seed, which would include a valuable playoff bye. They need to win at Detroit next week to secure at least a playoff bye. Meanwhile, the Lions fall to 10-5, and are locked in the sixth seed for the NFC. They will host the Bears next weekend, in a game that really no longer means much of anything to them anymore, as they will face the number three seed in he NFC on the road the following weekend. Likely, the Vikings will rest their starters, and make this their de facto bye week.

My pick: Inaccurate
