🏈 2021-22 NFL Thursday Night Football Week 2 Preview: G-Men Head Down to Washington 🏈

New York Giants (0-1) at Washington Football Team (0-1)

Almost forgot about this one! But I remembered just on time, and am getting this published just before the game really gets under way (at least I think).

Last week, I predicted that the G-Men would win.  After all, they were at home, and played another losing team. At least the Broncos have taken to losing since those two Super Bowls that they played in, winning the more recent one) during the Peyton Manning days.

However, the Giants looked pretty mediocre, at best. They lost that game, 27-13, although they were losing by 20 until pretty late in the game. The offense, which seemed loaded with talent and ready for this season to be their breakout year, instead looked lifeless and lethargic for far too much of the game to ignore. It was geriatric football for an offense that should really be better by now.

Nor did the defense fair much better. They allowed 420 yards, and the Broncos controlled the ball for the vast majority of the game, earning 24 first downs, and obviously scoring  Teddy Bridgewater, the Broncos quarterback, looked magnificent, completing 28 of 34 passes for 264 yards and two touchdowns. How much of that was him, and how much of that was because of a sluggish New York defense is anyone's guess.

On the ground, the Giants defense did not do too well, either, allowing 165 yards, including a backbreaking 70-yard touchdown run in the final quarter that put any hopes of a comeback to rest.

So, not a good report card for the G-Men after week one. Of course, Washington lost as well. That much is true. But at least they lost playing respectably well, and actually fought hard enough to make the Chargers work for it.

That is why I have to go with the home team, and not my Giants, to win this game. Based on how the two teams looked last weekend, with both needing adjustments, it just feels to me like Big Blue is significantly farther away from earning their first win than the team that they will be playing, who after all, won the division last season.

My pick: Washington
