One thing that seems to have become extremely popular in recent years would be emphasizing argument points by putting a period after every word. It probably was a powerful tool at first, although it is really beginning to lose it’s impact because of the level of repetition with which it is being employed.
Yes. It. Is. Overused.
If memory serves correctly, I noticed it and thought it powerful the first time that I can remember seeing it, although that would have been some years ago now. But there came a point when it really began to be abused. And not surprisingly, it continued to be used very frequently, until there reached a point when it seemed to be used more than ever.
More. Than. Ever.
Than, there came to be other variations of it, like those in all caps.
ALL. CAPS.
Admittedly, I am getting more than a little sick and tired of it.
Sick. And. Tired. Of. It.
As Stephen King once suggested, repetition is hell.
Repetition. Is. Hell.
So, if you are doing this perhaps too much, and especially if you do it without understanding serious dramatic effect (in other words, incapably), then here is just a little advice:
Please. Stop.
