Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) has managed to get off to what is truly an unbelievable start to this new season. To date, they have played seven matches to this point in the season, and they have managed to win all seven matches.
Yesterday, PSG defeated Metz on the road. PSG rightwinger Achraf Hakimi scored the first goal of the game, giving PSG the early 1-0 advantage.
Boubakar Kouyaté managed to tie it in the 39th minute, and the two teams were nodded up at 1-1 as they went into the lockers for halftime.
Neither team was able to break the deadlock during regular time in the second half. But in extra time, things suddenly picked up in a hurry with a flurry of activity.
Dylan Bronn picked up a red card for Metz in the first minute of extra time.
And then, Hakimi scored his second goal of the game in the fifth minute of extra time, which was good enough to life PSG to another victory, and a perfect record of seven wins after seven games. They remain comfortably atop the Ligue 1 standings at the moment.
PSG's attack is looking impressive, and should become even more so once Lionel Messi's chemistry with his new teammates is established. The defending on the other hand isn't up to par. They've gotten into the nasty habit of allowing goals against mediocre opposition which theoretically shouldn't be good enough to score against them. They can get away with that in Ligue 1, but they'll need to do better in the Champions League. That said, their hot start in le championnat bodes well, particularly considering that they uncharacteristically lost their opening two games of the season last year.
ReplyDeleteAh, yes, that's right. Forgot about last year's miserable start. Right now, though, they are hot, although you are right: they surely need to step it up when they have to play the truly elite clubs in Europe.
