🏈 2021-22 NFL Thursday Night Football Week 2 Review: Washington Edges Giants in a Memorable & Entertaining Game 🏈

Washington Football Team 30, NY Giants 29

Wow! What a game!

I know, I know. I picked against my team, and unfortunately, was proven right. Ultimately, Washington did win.

Yet the Giants played extremely well. Their offense looked sharp at times. Their defense did a decent job, at least until late in the game, when unfortunately, it seemed that Washington kept doing just enough to keep that window of opportunity for the win open. The Giants seemed to have the game at times, but Washington kept answering, kept in it.

Still, the G-Men played better than I thought they would, particularly on offense. Of course, that should be said knowing that there was that one beautiful touchdown pass that was dropped, and which likely would have won it for Big Blue. That was a major missed opportunity, and it likely will (and should) haunt the team for at least this week. Another mistake that was made, and which probably lost the game for the G-Men in the end, was that crucial offsides. Coming as it did on the very play where there was a missed field goal in the waning seconds of a game that the Giants finally seemed to have iced, only to see Washington get yet another opportunity, which this time they nailed, was a killer.

As a Giants fan, there was enough of both the good and the bad in this one to make me both optimistic, as well as a bit annoyed that they did not get it done. Again, Daniel Jones looked good, looked solid. If he plays the rest of the way the way that he played in last night's game, the Giants have a pretty decent quarterback, one who can get the job done, and who might just lead them into the playoffs. Perhaps somewhere along the line, perhaps even they might be able to make a deep run through the playoffs, if Jones played the way that he did last night.

However, at the end of the day, you look at who won and lost. New York had owned a five game win streak against Washington, and that positive streak was snapped with this loss. The G-Men now are in the cellar of the NFC East again, and depending on if Dallas wins this coming week or not, they may be the division's only winless team after this weekend.

It is a tough loss, and a game that they should frankly have won. I felt that they outplayed Washington for most of the game, particularly the second half, right until the very end. But in the standings, that does not matter. It's who gets the most W's, and the Giants blew a chance to get a big one last night.

My pick: Accurate
