Late last week, just days after getting back from our trip down to the Deep South, my son and I went to Manhattan for the Van Gogh Exposition. It was supposed to be an immersive experience, and indeed, that is exactly what it was. More on that, hopefully, in the near future, when I get my pictures all sorted out.
Meanwhile, however, aside from the Van Gogh Exposition, we visited Manhattan. We visited the World Trade Center, which I already posted about. And isn't it hard to believe that it has been twenty years since the September 11th attacks? The other place that we visited was the nearby Battery Park, which gives out on a view of the Hudson River and Jersey City across the water, as well as of Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. One of the favorite things to eat for us on these trips are street vendor shish kebob, which we had again on this trip. Probably ill-advised, given how much we ate barbecue and spicy creole food during our Southern trip. We have to start eating a lot healthier now that we are back under our normal routine.
Anyway, here are some pictures of our recent trip to Battery Park in Manhattan.
This was a pleasant surprise! A piece of the Berlin Wall, given by the city of Berlin, Germany, of course, to Battery Park in New York City. Had not seen one of these actual pieces of the Berlin Wall since my trip to Berlin itself a number of years ago. I knew that some American cities, including New York and Washington, had a piece of it somewhere, but did not know it was at Battery Park until our visit. Very cool!
The World Trade Center train station, with the PATH Station trains to New Jersey, is the very modern looking structure. Had it been along the waterfront, I think this would have become an iconic landmark of Manhattan, personally. Still impressive and quite aesthetically pleasing, though.
