Fresh off their rather surprising first loss of the season to the Cardinals, the Rams now have to gear up in a hurry once again in order to take on the Seahawks, who themselves won an important NFC West showdown last week by beating the 49ers in San Francisco to stay relevant within the division.
The Seahawks clearly needed to win that game, and that got them back into the NFC West race. Yet, they trail the Rams by one game, and the Cardinals by two, so there is really little to no margin for error, despite last week’s win.
Meanwhile, the Rams want to show that the humbling loss to the Cardinals was not crippling to their chances, and perhaps even that it might have been some sort of a fluke. With a win on the road in Seattle, which has traditionally been one of the loudest and most hostile and difficult places for road teams to play, the Rams will reestablish themselves as serious contenders within the division.
So this one is pretty huge for both teams. The Seahawks, however, feel like the team with less margin for error, as a loss would put them in sole possession of last place in the NFC West again, a distinction they just managed to escape with last weekend’s win. If they win, they have to be considered serious contenders in the NFC West, and a legitimate playoff contender. However, should they lose, they fall behind even more to the still undefeated Cardinals, as well as the Rams, and they would have dropped an important divisional game at home. Obviously, that is not what they want.
I suspect that the Seahawks play extremely well in this one, establish a solid offensive performance, and find a way to win in a close one.
