The Tampa Bay Bucs are the defending Super Bowl champions, and often times, that means a difficult year the next season. Yet so far, you have to say that the Buccaneers are flying high at 5-1. Only one team in the league has a better record than they do at the moment and, arguably, nobody looks better than they do to this point in the season. They keep finding ways to win, week after week.
The Bucs did it again on Thursday night, taking a big lead early, and then hanging on when Philly rallied to secure another big win.
Brady completed 34 of 42 passes for 297 yards and two touchdowns, with one interception. His favorite receiver, not surprisingly, was Antonio Brown, who reeled in nine catches for 91 yards and one touchdown. Leonard Fournette really helped by being a force on the ground, rushing for 81 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries.
Tampa controlled the tempo of this game, dominating the time of possession by holding onto the ball for nearly double the amount that Philly did. Not all that surprisingly, they also outgained the Eagles, 399 yards to 213, and picking up 27 first downs, to just 16 for Philly. All of that helped the Bucs to earn a commanding 28-7 lead by late in the third quarter.
Philadelphia did rally with a touchdown late in the third quarter, however, and then made it interesting with yet another touchdown in the fourth quarter, to close to within 28-22. But that was as close as they would get in this one, as they were unable to complete the comeback.
With the win, the champion Buccaneers improve to 5-1 on the year, while the Eagles fall to 2-4. The Bucs will host the Bears in their next game, in what will be a generational battle of high profile quarterbacks. Meanwhile, the Eagles will travel out west to take on the Raiders in Las Vegas in their next game a week from today.
My pick: Accurate
